The SCTE® (Society for Broadband Professionals) today announced that its annual Spring Lecture will be taking place on Thursday 14 March at One Great George Street in central London for the cable, fibre, and telecoms industries.

In line with the Society’s mission to educate and inform, the line up of speakers reflects the current issues facing today’s sector as we pivot from the fibre roll out to becoming a service provider. Entitled ‘Fibre, Service and a DOCSIS Love Story’, five speakers over the course of the day will provide a 45-minute lecture covering the broad spectrum of challenges facing ISPs, from the technical to the personal, and the line-up includes:

  • DOCSIS and PON: A Love Story by Adam Soccorsy, Technetix
  • The Economics of Broadband Service Availability and Driving NPS by Dan Gledhill, Harmonic
  • Beyond Shine, The art of Brass Plating and Product Enhancements by Søren Baldus-Kunze, Amphenol
  • How can good Service Providers prove to their customers that they are not the problem in the user’s application experience? By Brian Gilbert, Canopus Networks Ltd

Anthony Basham, recently appointed CEO of DKT A/S and President of the SCTE® said, “We have an excellent range of speakers to kick off the Lecture Series this year and I think the topics are indicative of the level of maturity we’ve reached as an industry. We are a sector of engineers that now needs to give significant consideration to delivering high end service if we are to remain at the top of our game.”

Costas Kyriacou, Chair of the Lecture Committee, commented, “As Chair of the Lecture Committee the Lecture Series is the jewel in our crown; we work hard to find speakers that represent the issues of the day for all our members, so that we can continue to offer great value for money for their membership. If everyone goes away having learned something and enjoyed the networking opportunities the day offers then we have done our job.”

The Spring Lecture is the first of three lectures planned across the year, with the Summer Lecture taking place on July 3 in Bicester, Oxon and the Autumn Lecture taking place in London on October 16 at One Great George Street again.  These events are an expression of the SCTE’s commitment to education and knowledge dissemination, in line with our mission to raise and maintain standards across the cable, fibre and telecoms sectors. For almost 80 years the SCTE has been providing accreditation, training courses, publications, webinars, podcasts and networking opportunities to a close-knit community of engineers and technicians, reinventing itself as the technology continues to evolve. The lectures remain an important date in the calendar for SCTE members all over the country.

At the Spring Lecture, there will be two sessions in the morning and three in the afternoon, with plenty of opportunities to network during coffee breaks in the morning and afternoon, plus a 90-minute networking lunch in the bar area. The event is free of charge to attend for SCTE members and costs £50+ VAT for non-members.
